good stuff house

[2006, time-lag]
gsh, despite having a ridiculously bad name, are actually really damn good. they're formed by "matt christensen & mike weis of zelienope, with scott tuma of souled american, boxhead ensemble, etc..." (taken from time-lag's site). unsurprisingly, they do sound like a project on time-lag, which is to say that they play experimental folk music. almost exclusively instrumental, the music is mainly comprised of acoustic guitar, warm drones and atmospherics, and is quite enjoyable. i love time-lag. track three, clocking in at ten minutes and one second, sounds the least like any of the other tracks and is probably my favorite. here, they abandon the acoustic and open up with a slow drone and screeching harmonica which becomes increasingly more chaotic until it reaches it's noisy conclusion. lovely.

i haven't heard of zelienope prior to looking up good stuff house, but if their other gig is anywhere near as good as this, i'll be really happy. they just released an album "ghost ship" on pseudoaracana, hopefully that'll be on slsk soon.

nothing ever changes
ahh..what the hell. okay, so i'm a bit behind the times in starting up one of these, but hey, i'm lazy, and better late than never right?
smooth assailing was created out of sheer disdain for nearly all of the (experimental) music related e-zines and such that i've come across. hopefully, i can create somethingmoderately infinitely interesting that appeals to fans of noise/experimental/avant garde music. i'm also using this as an extension of the its my noise group on last.fm.
my focus here is to shed some light on some lesser known artists, showcase some of the pioneers of the music i like, educate, review some releases i've enjoyed lately, review shows, promote local events, talk shit about sacramento and anything else i can think of.
the forums are up, but not really. i'll work on getting them all fancy-like in the next couple of days.
if people actually pay attention to what i'm doing, i'd like to expand, so if you're if you're interested in helping out in any capacity, send me an email.
